Come share my 60-year passion of collecting six centuries of historical newspapers (as well as their precursors and digital successors) chronicling the rise (and maybe the fall) of news media over the past six centuries.

See for yourself how “history unfolded on paper.”  As we travel through six centuries of time, we’ll explore the most famous and important events taking place between the 16th and the 21st centuries. You’ll see original historical newspapers, news-books, broadsides, and other media that covered the “first drafts of history” as they occurred. Steve will describe the events depicted in case a font is too small for you to easily read on the screen. You will see how history unfolded on paper and how the news media got it right, or wrong, at the time. We will look back at the historical record over the decades to see which news stories “held up” and which proved to be “fake news.”

Come share the passion of collecting original historical newspapers for over 60 years!

What to Expect:

You will discover the history of newspapers, early news media, and their present-day successors beginning with the invention of movable type and the printing press in the 15th century by Johannes Gutenberg. The most historically significant events over the past 6 centuries will be the backdrop for this journey; their impacts and importance will be fully illuminated as we move together through the centuries of the development of news reporting, distribution, and printing.
