The Papacy has survived nearly two thousand years, many of them tumultuous. We’ll review the Papacy’s history and how it has approached its many challenges and crises.

The Catholic Church has had profound influence on the Western world but not without challenges and intrigue. In typical Ray fashion, you will learn interesting anecdotes and facts in an approachable fashion.

The Papacy is the office of the Bishop of Rome and head of the Catholic Church. This course will review the political history of the Papacy as it has interacted with Europe and civilization for almost two thousand years. All the major crises that the Papacy has weathered will be reviewed, from Roman times to the 21st century.

What to Expect:

We will do a deep dive into the origins of the Papacy and how it became powerful; the many crises it faced and how they were handled; how the Papacy adjusted to political changes in Europe and the rest of the world; and the many challenges it faces in the 21st century.
