Learn about the amazing superpowers of these beautiful animals and the benefits they bring to our community.

Love horses?  Been awhile since your last “horse fix”?  Talisman Therapeutic Riding has created a Horse Discovery Program for us at Chesapeake Forum after the success of their Summer Horse Camp last Summer!

Learn about the amazing superpowers of horses at Talisman Therapeutic Riding!

Horse Discovery is a three-part series that includes Parts 1 and 2 this Winter, and concludes with a fun Summer Horse Camp program.

PLEASE NOTE: Horse Discovery Part 1 or last Summer’s Horse Camp is a requisite for taking Part 2.

Horse Discovery – Part 1 is a 90-minute session of unmounted activities and practical exercises to hone your horsemanship skills. The focus is on building an understanding of equine fundamentals, including horse safety, horse anatomy, grooming tools and techniques, leading, and horse behavior.

Horse Discovery – Part 2 expands your basic horsemanship skills with a 90-minute progressive session that builds on Horse Discovery – Part 1.   Here the emphasis is placed on learning about tack and equipment, tacking techniques, mounting and dismounting, riding aids, and the basics of walk, stop, and steering.

The final step in the Horse Discovery program is the Summer Horse Camp at Talisman Therapeutic Riding where participants embrace their love of horses! Summer Horse Camp includes unmounted activities and practical exercises for fun and to refresh your horsemanship skills. This progream focuses on equine fundamentals, including horse anatomy, grooming, leading, and horse behavior. After the horses are put away, we enjoy refreshing beverages and a light lunch harvested from Talisman’s Growing Hope Garden. (REGISTRATION for Summer Horse Camp will not open until the Summer Semester opens.)

What to Expect:

These courses allow you to connect, or reconnect, with horses in a professional and peaceful environment. Your eyes will be opened to Talisman as a wonderful local resource and how we make a difference in the community. Each session will focus on a DIFFERENT project!

Feedback from past programs with Noelle:

“Wonderful program! The property is beautiful, the staff warm and engaging, the horses sweet!! You leave feeling uplifted with a better understanding of horses and the therapeutic sessions they offer!”

“Both of the presenters/instructors are highly knowledgeable, engaging, and pleasant to be with, but the best part, of course, was the time spent with the horses!”

“Learned a lot about horses and had a chance to groom them and lead them and just get acquainted with this large huggable animal. Comradery with new friends was fun too.”

Please note:  your registration fee pays the Talisman program costs plus a nominal Chesapeake Forum overhead contribution.  **Seats for this program are giftable but not refundable unless there is someone on the waitlist to take the seat.**
