Embark on a journey with artist/storyteller, Ginda Simpson, as she guides us into the heart of Egypt. “Her paintings tell stories; her stories paint pictures.”

In September 1993, Ginda Simpson moved to Egypt to accompany her husband on a one-year work assignment. Her love of and compassion for her fellow man, coupled with an insatiable curiosity, led this artist/storyteller on daily excursions to experience everything from the nightmare of downtown Cairo traffic, to the beauty in the harshness of life in the desert.

Imagine yourself adrift on the Nile in a white-sailed felucca and let her take you to see the Sphinx in the middle of the night, to ancient bazaars and crowded marketplaces, to the tranquil countryside where life unfolds, unchanging. Travel with Ginda on leisurely afternoons, honey-lit and sweet, adventures that led her to new insights and ancient wisdoms. She is able to make others see what she sees, hear what she hears, and reflect with her on what it all means, as she discovers over and over again that the best treasures in Egypt are not to be found in museums or the marketplace, but in the crowded streets of Cairo and in the quietude of the desert and the Nile.

What to expect:

By sharing her stories and paintings, Ginda wants us to see the Egypt that is not part of a tourist itinerary, but the Egypt she came to love. Through her 1st-hand descriptions of encounters with the Egyptian people, as well as the personal reflections and experiences of a Western woman living and traveling in this ancient land, she invites us to join her as she unearths some of Egypt’s hidden treasures – the people.
