Join Maegan and Courtney and ShoreRivers’ Riverkeepers for a dynamic course that dives into the future of Chesapeake Bay restoration, river-friendly boating practices, land use impacts, and cutting-edge restoration efforts shaping the health of our waterways.

Through engaging guest lectures and real-world examples, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of water quality challenges—and leave equipped with practical strategies to protect and restore rivers in your own community.

ShoreRivers is a local environmental nonprofit dedicated to safeguarding Eastern Shore waterways through science-based advocacy, restoration, outreach, and education.  Throughout the course, specialists from across the organization will share timely insights on topics such as the future of the Chesapeake Bay Agreement, how mariners can adopt river-friendly practices, and the impact of land use in Maryland’s critical areas.

What to Expect:  

You’ll explore how the 1983 Chesapeake Bay Agreement is being revised to meet future restoration goals. Learn strategies that help boaters minimize their environmental impact, understand how to identify and report illegal land use practices in protected zones, and discover a range of approaches to improving water quality on the Eastern Shore—along with meaningful ways to get involved.

Maegan White

Maegan White

Maegan joined ShoreRivers in 2022. As the Senior Community Engagement Coordinator, Maegan White works to coordinate volunteer programs, connect community members, and engage our members in stewardship. Maegan first found her love for the outdoors exploring the mountains and lakes near her home in South Carolina. She moved to the Eastern Shore to attend college and developed a love for the Chesapeake Bay and rivers of the Eastern Shore. Maegan attended Washington College where she earned a degree in environmental science and political science.

Courtney Leigh

Courtney Leigh joined ShoreRivers in 2018 after 11 years at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center, where she led environmental education and stewardship programs for all ages. She holds a marine biology degree from Bloomsburg University and brings hands-on experience in field research and outdoor education across diverse ecosystems, including the Mid-Atlantic Estuarine environs. A certified Interpretive Guide and Level 2 Kayak Instructor, Courtney has taught from Pre-K to college in both public and private schools. She lives on the Wye River in Queenstown with her family and remains active in local nonprofits.
