Learn how crypto currencies work and how they may affect global financial stability. The question is whether crypto currencies such as Bitcoin are anything more than a financial frenzy.    

Claudia will guide us through a review of crypto currencies through the lens of financial market participants: What views are expressed by major investment banks, pension funds, hedge funds, central banks and international financial organizations (IMF, BIS)? What does academic research say? 

She will continue with further discussion:  What efforts are underway to regulate crypto currencies? How is digital money different from crypto currencies? What is central bank digital currency (CBDC)? How are peer-to-peer payment apps such as PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, and others related to crypto? Does the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) guarantee crypto assets? Could volatile crypto currencies destabilize the financial system?

What to Expect:  The goal of this discussion group is to understand how crypto currencies work, whether they are anything more than a financial frenzy, and how they may affect global financial stability. Please note that the discussion group may generate more questions than answers!
