Across cultures, the ancient art of basket coiling has been used to create objects that are both practical and beautiful.
In this hands-on, one-day workshop, you’ll learn to craft a lasting basket using natural materials gathered from your own yard or neighborhood.
Basket making is more than a craft—it’s a way to reconnect with your hands, slow down, and transform humble fibers into something meaningful. You’ll begin with a starter circle, wrapping plant fibers or fabric around a core and stitching each round into place. From there, your basket grows—coil by coil—into a unique creation. By experimenting with stitching styles and materials, you can shape baskets that are strong, delicate, textured, or sculptural.
You’ll also explore a variety of alternative materials that can be harvested locally, so you can continue weaving and experimenting on your own.
What to Expect:
You will leave with a finished basket, tools to use for future baskets and knowledge of local materials that can be harvested and used. All materials provided and no experience is necessary!
