What is it like to camp in the African bush for 12 days?  Do animals come into your camp?  Join one of our most frequent adventurers to find out!

Bettye is back with another travel program as she shares her unforgettable camping journey through Botswana.

Through photos and videos shot in the field, Bettye invites us to observe this celebration of African wilderness in its natural rhythm. You’ll witness:

  • Towering bull elephants and nurturing mothers with their tiny calves
  • Cheetahs, lions, and leopards—up close and uncaged
  • A remarkable moment when a lioness adopts the cubs of two others
  • The thrill (and chill) of a male lion confidently approaching your open safari vehicle

No animals are harmed in these videos.

What to Expect:

Bettye and her travel companions didn’t just spot the Big Cats—they stayed to observe their behaviors. She’ll share insights into animal interactions, and the quiet awe of watching giraffes, hippos, and elephants in their natural habitat.

Her talk will also include travel tips for those who are curious about African safaris or simply eager to live vicariously through Bettye’s lens.

Come for the adventure. Stay for the stories. Leave inspired.

Bettye Maki’s work background is based in medicine but she has always been an environmentalist and nature lover. Her most memorable trip was one to Botswana, Africa. She has traveled to many exotic places but has always wanted to return to Botswana and did so this past June. She camped in a tent for 12 days with a friend and a local guide with his staff. Their guide was an excellent tracker which led to some exciting adventures that she looks forward to sharing.
