Drawing from their personal travels, Kathy and Jerry will share practical tips for planning your own adventure, whether solo or with a group. Learn how to navigate Switzerland’s state-of-the-art Swiss Rail system and enjoy scenic ferry rides across alpine lakes.

Topics to be covered include the benefits of travelling on Swiss Rail trains, one of the most modern systems in the world and the ferries on the lakes. You will learn how to stay at a Swiss castle, ride cable cars to the top of famous mountains, and how to sample the world’s best cheeses, yogurts, wines, and chocolates.

Katherine Marconi

Kathy Marconi

Katherine Marconi received a PhD in Sociology from George Washington University and a MS in Technology Management from UMGC. Previously, she managed state, national, and international public health programs. Katherine taught at two University of Maryland campuses and during her career, frequently traveled within the US and to other countries, especially Switzerland. After retirement, her interest in travel grew, especially with a daughter who has lived in a number of European countries. It has given Katherine the chance to explore and meet residents of the Swiss Alps. In the summer she loves to walk in the Alps and visit the many beautiful villages there

Gerard Marconi

Jerry Marconi

Jerry Marconi is a native of Baltimore who earned a master’s degree in Humanities from Johns Hopkins University and in Drama from Catholic University. He taught these subjects at the college level and led study tours to museums and theaters in Washington, Baltimore, London, and Florence, Italy. He has taken a number of trips to the Swiss Alps and enjoys their beauty. He is currently a volunteer at the Oxford Museum and recently led a Chesapeake Forum course on the War of 1812 in Baltimore.
