Engineering Trip To Usna 2

Visit USNA engineering areas not typically open to the public!

Ready to unleash your inner “Engineer Geek”?  Be one of 10 participants from Chesapeake Forum to join 12 top students from local High Schools on a special trip over to the US Naval Academy.  Get a behind the scenes look at the laboratories and engineering facilities in Rickover and Hopper Halls.  Explore the Space Systems Lab, Supersonic Wind-Tunnel Lab, Nuclear Reactor, Propulsion Lab, and Cyber/Computer Systems spaces.

The program will be led by Commander Jonathan Gibbs, PhD.

We will be greeted by Cmdr. Gibbs and several midshipmen at 9:15am.   After two hours of activities in the morning, we will watch the Wednesday Noon Meal Formation. The group will be split at this point with adults going to the Naval Academy Club for a pay-as-you-go lunch.  The teens will be hosted at the Naval Academy Mess Hall for the noon meal with the Brigade of Midshipmen. After lunch the group will observe post noon meal professional development, led by one of the Brigade’s Company Commanders.  The final two hours of this visit will conclude in the Rickover/Hopper Hall laboratories.

We will wrap up the day’s activities on or about 3:30pm and return to Easton.

Due to the nature of this field trip, it will be limited to 10 adults from Chesapeake Forum.

What to Expect:  This will be a unique opportunity to see first-hand some of the USNA’s engineering facilities where young Midshipmen are trained for future careers with the Navy.

Reserved parking passes for parking inside the Naval Academy Yard will be provided to five drivers agreeing to carpool.  We will meet at 7:30/depart at 7:45 am by carpool from a staging area at the empty bank parking lot in front of the Easton Target.  (Destination: Alumni Hall parking structure, USNA, Gate 8, Boyer Rd, Annapolis, MD)
