Examine the US Navy’s pivotal role in winning the Civil War and the almost unerring work accomplished by its leaders.

The role and success of the US Navy in the American Civil War is generally underappreciated and not very well understood.  The leadership of Navy Secretary Gideon Welles was of inestimable value to the Union cause. This course will trace the development of both the oceangoing, as well as the river fleets, the enlightened leadership of Welles and others, along with the manufacturing prowess of the Union that developed and built the warships and met the disparate needs of the military.

What to expect:

Attendees will have a far better understanding of the role played by the Navy and how the Union armies took advantage of the vessels to carry the attack to the Confederacy.

Feedback from past courses with Mickey:

“This course was fascinating.  The presentation was interesting and clear. I plan to take other courses offered by this instructor!

“Fascinating study of the border states which are somewhat ignored in Civil War history. The handouts add so much to the class, especially when available before the lecture so that we can be better prepared to understand and remember.  Will definitely sign up for more!”
