Bettye Maki has always been an admirer of nature so it is no surprise that most of her vacations have been nature oriented. She has always liked the adventure of travel – seeing new places, different wildlife, topography, and plant life. She has traveled within the United States, Canada, Central and South America, Finland, Europe, Africa, and Borneo. Bettye is an avid kayaker and once spent a week kayaking off the coast of Vancouver Island, kayaking from one island to another and tenting overnight. She graduated from Ferris State College in Michigan and spent her career in the field of Medical Technology where her studies included hematology, chemistry, bacteriology, and parasitology. She has been the president of the Talbot County Bird Club for the last five years, also serving on two Ornithological committees, and is an active volunteer at the Talbot Humane Society.
